Boston pics

Here is a selection of views from my bike ride up and down the Charles River after checking out the über-geek MIT electronics flea market on April 16

Springtime in Boston

Harvard can be too picturesque…

The Charles River in Watertown, before the plants have started growing…

The underside of the BU Bridge

This is the back alley behind Marlborough Street in the Back Bay.  We used to live in an apartment here from ’76 to ’78, and this is where, as neighbors, Dad met my stepmother.  The area used to be pretty affordable – not anymore!  As rents moved up, our family moved outward from the city in ’78, and in ’81.

The finish line for the Boston Marathon was abuzz with activity on the day before the race.  The finish line is right next to the BPL (Boston Public Library), which is at the right in this pic.

“The Tortoise and the Hare” here in Copley Square mark the end of the Boston Marathon route.
For five years, I worked at the Copy Cop store (hidden behind a truck) across the street.  It was a great place for people-watching…

Trinity Church and the John Hancock Tower make for a sharp contrast in styles.
I’ve tried to piece together several photos of the scene, as you can see by the discontinuities in the lines…  It’s funny to see people trying to get pictures of the Hancock Tower, backing up to try to fit the whole building in the camera’s field-of-view, and then backing up again… and again…

The Swan Boats, a Boston classic…

For as long as I can remember, this fortress of a warehouse has stood next to Mass. Ave. proclaiming that it is “Fire Proof.”  Now, I’m no pyromaniac, but this just seems to be taunting me to try something that I know I shouldn’t…  Maybe it is some twisted MIT psychology experiment?
Interestingly, the nuclear reactor across the tracks has no such proclamation.  So maybe this serves as a diversion?

The Stata Center at MIT is one of the most unusual structures in the overly-conservative Boston area…
